Universal Viewer Free (formally ATViewer) is a file viewer that supports many different formats like text, binary, rtf, images, videos, audio, etc. One nice feature is that it can open large text files very quickly without eating memory. One downside is that there is no editing of these files, but useful if you have to go through large log files.

[UPDATE] Koma-Mail V3.80

Posted: 28 Feb 2010 12:28 PM PST

Koma-Mail is a multi-user email client with support for IMAP/POP3/SMAP/WebDAV. It has a built-in spam filter, as well as JavaScript/ActiveX blocker. It supports HTML emails and inline attachments. It can also be used as a RSS newsfeed reader.

Note: It has been reported that Koma-Mail displays a donation dialog once in a long while. I have not been able to reproduce this behaviour, but do take note if you want to give this app a try.

[UPDATE] XnView V1.97.2

Posted: 28 Feb 2010 10:56 AM PST

XnView is an image viewer and converter that supports more than 400 graphics format. It has tons of options you can tweak. My favorite is to enable caching so that thumbnails are cached in a temp folder of my choice (unlike some image viewers that insist on writing the cache file to every image folder that you access).

In addition, XnView supports batch processing, so you can resize a whole folder of images with a click of the mouse, or apply various other funky filters. This feature is extremely powerful, since you can chain multiple filters in one operation (eg. soften, then resize, then add frame etc.) Oh, and did I mention, XnView is able to use Photoshop's 8bf plugins!
